Flags To Fly At Half-Mast In Memory Of Joan Kirner

Flags on government buildings across Victoria will fly at half-mast tomorrow as a mark of mourning and respect for former Victorian Premier Joan Kirner AC.

The Australian National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the day on Friday, 5th June, from all buildings occupied by state and local government departments and affiliated agencies.

Other organisations are welcome to participate.

A State Funeral for Mrs Kirner will be held at the Williamstown Town Hall, 104 Fergusson Street, Williamstown, from 10am on Friday.

A live broadcast of the service will be held at Williamstown High School Gymnasium, corner Pasco Street and Melbourne Road, Williamstown. (Please note that the gymnasium is on a separate site to the rest of the school.)

Due to significant public interest, it is expected that many people will be directed to the Williamstown High School Gymnasium once the Town Hall has reached capacity.

The gymnasium is approximately a five minute walk from the Town Hall and people are welcome to arrive directly at the gymnasium if they would prefer.

The funeral cortege will pass the Williamtown High School Gymnasium at the conclusion of the main service.

Road closures in the precinct surrounding the Town Hall and extending to the Gymnasium will be in effect from 9am.
