Boosting Women’s Leadership On Boards

The Andrews Labor Government is boosting the number of women and diversity on community and government boards.

Minister for Women Natalie Hutchins today opened applications for the 2018-19 round of scholarships under the Women’s Board Leadership program and invited Victorian women to apply.

The program gives women serving on community and government boards tailored governance training and mentoring with a focus on Aboriginal and culturally diverse women.

The Women’s Board Leadership Program works closely with Leadership Victoria and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

It is designed to help more women improve their governance skills and gain extra experience to make an impact on community and government boards in Victoria.

The new Women’s Board Leadership program was launched last year as part of Victoria’s gender equality strategy. The strategy is all about getting more women into leadership and decision-making roles, including as board directors.

The program complements the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to see an equal representation of women on paid government boards.

Women now make up more than 50 per cent of new appointments to paid boards. The Labor Government extended this target to include Chair positions on International Women’s Day this year.
