Investing In The Next Generation Of Women In Games

Opportunities for women working in digital games will now be stronger than ever before, thanks to $140,000 in funding from the Andrews Labor Government to support a series of professional placements for women.

Announcing the grants through Film Victoria’s Games Professional Placements program, Minister for Creative Industries Martin Foley said the placements are part of the Labor Government’s commitment to backing local talent and improving gender balance in Victoria’s screen industry.

The latest round will give women starting out in the games industry the chance to learn from some of Melbourne’s leading games companies. The selected women will be directly involved in a range of new projects to build their skills, experience and networks, and open up employment opportunities.

Reflecting the diversity of games careers, placements will be offered in fields ranging from programming to marketing and 2D/3D animation.  Placement opportunities include:

  • Samurai Punk – Programmer
  • Tin Man Games – Production and Marketing Assistant
  • Harmonious Games – Junior Programmer
  • Second Sight – UX and Game Designer
  • Wicked Witch Software – 3D Animator
  • PlaySide Studios – Games Artist
  • Tantalus Media – QA Technician

The Games Professional Placements program is one of a number of opportunities supported by the Labor Government to back women in the screen industry.
