Melbourne’s White Night Returns In 2016

The Andrews Labor Government has confirmed the return of one of Victoria’s most popular cultural events, White Night Melbourne.

Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren today joined Lord Mayor Robert Doyle to announce that Melbourne will dazzle thanks to spectacular illuminations, theatre, special dining experiences and performances from dusk to dawn on February 20.

The all-night festival attracts hundreds of thousands to Melbourne’s CBD, as lights and lasers beam striking images and captivating colours across landmark buildings and city facades. Street performers and artists keep crowds entertained, and city retailers trade well into the night.

Some 1.3 million people have attended White Night Melbourne over three spectacular years, making it one of the most popular dates on Victoria’s impressive calendar of events. The 2015 instalment generated $16.8 million for Victoria’s economy – supporting jobs and growth.

White Night Melbourne is Australia’s contribution to the global phenomenon, Nuit Blanche, and Victoria is the only Australian state that offers the all-night event. Melbourne joins 23 cities worldwide, including Paris, Toronto and Sao Paolo.

Mr Andrews also launched an Expression of Interest period for artists, performers and the creative community to be involved in White Night Melbourne 2016.

It’s a great chance for local artists to showcase their talents to a global audience. More than 1600 creative industries artists took part this year, and more than 1500 were Victorians.
