PARKING AND SAFETY UPGRADES FOR WATERGARDENS

Commuters in Melbourne’s north-west will now find it easier to park, catch the train and travel – thanks to 95 new car parking spaces and safety upgrades near Watergardens Station.

The new parking spaces have been built on Sydenham Road, as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s Car Parks for Commuters program and the Australian Government’s Urban Congestion Fund.

Watergardens Station is a busy location on Melbourne’s transport network, with more than 1.5 million commuters using the station annually in recent years. The new car parking spaces and safety upgrades will now make it more accessible for locals to access the station and catch the train.

Works have included the construction of asphalt roadside car parking bays and a 3-metre-wide concrete shared user path along Sydenham Road to support walking and cycling access to the station.

New kerbs, drains, and pedestrian areas have also been constructed between Watergardens Station and Ondella Way, along with the installation of a new safety fence along the railway line.

A new roundabout has also been built at the intersection of Sydenham Road and Roseleigh Boulevard to improve safety for motorists as they travel throughout in the area.

The works were delivered by Brimbank City Council and form part of the first stage of upgrades at Watergardens. Planning and development is underway to deliver additional car parking and better accessibility for commuters.

Since 2014, almost 14,000 new and upgraded car parking spaces have been delivered at train stations across Victoria, and the Labor Government is on track to deliver an additional 7,000 new and upgraded spaces.
