Recognising Victoria’s Landcarers
Victorian volunteers who deliver on-ground environmental works throughout the state have been recognised in the 2015: Victorian Landcare Awards. The 2015 Awards ceremony was hosted by Her Excellency The Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria at Government House.
Minister for Environment, Climate Change and Water Lisa Neville was part of the ceremony as awards in 9 national categories, and 4 Victoria-specific awards were presented.
The 2015 Victorian Landcare Awards ceremony featured a new award in honour of the late Honourable Joan Kirner AC for her ground breaking role in establishing the Landcare movement.
The Andrews Labor Government supports the Landcare Awards because they celebrate community-minded people who are undertaking projects across Victoria that have made significant contributions to the sustainable care of their local environments.
Some outstanding projects from the winning entries include the use of insects and vegetation corridors to control pests and diseases in vineyards, supporting communities affected by bushfires, and a primary school campaign aimed at keeping plastic bags out of the sea.
The Labor Government is committed to strengthening and building Landcare to ensure it continues to deliver real, on the ground results and meets Victoria’s current and future environmental needs.
