Recruitment Commences For Project Fire Fighters
The Andrews Labor Government is once again recruiting seasonal project fire fighters to join the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria for the coming fire season.
The Government is aiming to recruit at least 600 project fire fighters for this summer with positions now open.
Applications are being sought from across the state to ensure work in preparing for summer can commence, including implementing Victoria’s planned burning program.
The recruits will be stationed at over 80 DELWP and Parks Victoria locations across the state, stretching from Mildura in the far north-west to Cann River in the east and Wilsons Promontory in Victoria’s south-east.
The first intake of project firefighters will be working on planned burn operations and preparation work ahead of the fire season.
Planned burning is part of an integrated plan to reduce the bushfire risk to people, property and communities.
Project Fire Fighter roles include 18 designated Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people positions as well as rappel and hover exit crews (specialist firefighting roles performed in remote locations) and fire support officers (limited positions).
