Supporting Women In Leadership On IWD

After achieving its target of gender equality on paid boards the Andrews Labor Government is expanding this target to include senior board positions.

On International Womens Day, Minister for Women Natalie Hutchins announced 50 per cent of the chairs on Victorian Government paid boards will be women.

This will help ensure that there is no gender segmentation, a common problem in organisations with a gender pay gap, in the future.

Diversity in leadership is a key factor that contributes to closing the gender pay gap.

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency Gender Equity Insights Report 2018 shows that greater female board participation contributes to more equitable pay across all levels of organisations.

The Labor Government is proud of its success in achieving more than 50 per cent of new appointments to paid boards being women and is leading the way for the private sector to boost the participation of women in leadership and governance roles.

Currently 47 per cent of Chair positions on 235 paid government boards are filled by women.
