Funding For The Greek Community To Support New Arrivals

Today the Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Robin Scott, visited the Australian Greek Welfare Society (AGWS) to announce the provision of election commitment funding.

The Andrews Labor Government has committed $90,000 per annum over four years to the AGWS, to work in collaboration with the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria and ensure services are available for new arrivals from Greece.

With the ongoing uncertainty with the Greek economy, it is even more important to ensure that that the appropriate support services are available.

The AGWS is a leading community organisation that provides a range of support services tailored to meet the cultural, linguistic, economic and social needs of Greek Victorians, including:

  • aged care – specialist home-based, community and residential services across Melbourne
  • legal services and referrals
  • relationship counselling and services
  • children’s programs
  • community education and training
