SEVENTH ANNIVERSARY OF NATIONAL APOLOGY

Friday 13 February, 2015

The Andrews Labor Government is committed to achieving reconciliation and addressing the ongoing disparities faced by Aboriginal people across the state.

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins reaffirmed this commitment at the Koorie Night Market, held on the seventh anniversary of Prime Minister Rudd’s Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples.

Ms Hutchins said the occasion was an opportunity to reflect on the injustices of the past and renew energies for the work still to be done.

Ms Hutchins said the Labor Government was committed to addressing inequality in health, education and employment and developing a Reconciliation Plan for the state.

This week’s Closing the Gap report highlighted the targets yet to be met and the need for commitment from all tiers of government.
