Victorian Series Takes The Field On Milestone Day For Girls

Mustangs FC, a Victorian-made TV series supported by the Andrews Labor Government, will lead celebrations for International Day of the Girl with a special screening at Federation Square tonight.

Victorian producers Amanda Higgs and Rachel Davis led a strong female team to create Mustangs FC, which follows a group of girls who abandon the sidelines to start their soccer club’s first all-girl team.

Women make up more than 60 per cent of the cast and crew, including lead roles in writing, directing, casting, cinematography, production design, costume and editing.

Mustangs FC’s entire 13-episode series will debut on ABC ME and the ABC ME app tonight, before making its big screen debut.

The screening is part of a #GIRLSCHANGETHEWORLD celebration at Federation Square, which will feature a host of talent including legendary Matildas soccer player Melissa Barbieri.

The Labor Government has partnered with ABC ME and Football Federation Victoria to celebrate the spirit of International Day of the Girl – an annual day that seeks to break down barriers and empower girls with the message that no opportunity is beyond them.

Film Victoria aims to have women comprise 50 per cent of writers, directors and producers across funded productions in the next five years and to double the number of women currently employed across all funded games.

International Day of the Girl celebrations will kick off at Federation Square from 5:00pm, with a Mustangs FC screening at 6:00pm.
